Lucy + Dan // Queenstown Elopement
Updated: Nov 28, 2018
Filming Lucy & Dan's elopement in Queenstown was like a dream. The location was stunning, the weather perfect, but more important; Lucy and Dan were the nicest people you'll meet. The day before the elopement, we took a walk to the top of Queenstown hill to catch the sunset. It started as an opportunity for them to get used to a camera, but was also a good place for the "couple interview" session.
I was so glad we decided to do it as I believe I captured a really beautiful exchange that hardly gets noticed.
A the end of the walk, Lucy mentioned that she and her dad were going for a walk in the morning; and didn't mind me filming. I thought that father-daughter moment would be a really precious memory to capture, but I was cautious not to interfere or ruin the moment. I decided to use a lapel mic to capture the conversation, and hung back and used my 105mm lens. I was so glad we decided to do it as I believe I captured a really beautiful exchange that hardly gets noticed.
The rest of the day passed by in a stunning blur. It was great to shoot alongside Fredrik Larsson (who has more photo awards than I can count). The ceremony by Moke Lake was beautiful, although I'll remember to bring some insect repellant next time.
The scenic helicopter landing was an awesome way to top the day off, the weather was perfect, the scenery jaw-dropping.
I usually make a 1 min teaser video a day after the shoot. However, I felt that vows fit so perfectly, I made a slightly longer video for the teaser. After all, the first steps to keeping your vows is remember them!
